<o:p></o:p></span></div>

With support from the district math department we are interested in using the Math Navigator modules. Estimados Padres,<br />
procediendo a 2016.
Driftless Shifter!”
Atentamente,<br />

<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span></i><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">Last year, the Adams 12 Five
Star Schools received more than 4,000 Choice applications for the 2015-16
school year. In accordance with the state’s open enrollment law, the district’s
Choice Program allows for students to apply to attend schools outside of their
attendance area boundary. Those who are approved for Choice are responsible for
their own transportation.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

out-of-district students can apply for Choice. Out-of-district Choice requests
are considered after in-district applications.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Acceptance to a Choice school is based upon several criteria:
availability of space, sufficient teaching staff, appropriate programs and the
necessary facilities for special needs students.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>While not a guarantee, when possible,
priority will be given to sibling applications so that families will attend the
same school. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

will be published in the December issue of the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Five Star Journal </i>and will be posted online at the district web

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">The Adams 12 Admissions
Office determines the acceptance of Choice requests. For traditional schools,
extended-day tuition-based kindergarten <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">does
not</b> go through the Choice Program.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>For
magnet schools, extended-day tuition-based kindergarten <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">does</b> go through the Choice Program.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>In-district students are not required to apply for Choice to attend secondary
programs like Horizon SOAR, Legacy 2000, Mountain Range Global Studies,
Northglenn High STEM Program and Thornton High International Baccalaureate (IB).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Application
and acceptance to those programs goes through the individual school.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Out-of-district students wishing to attend
high school programs that are not school-wide must apply for both Choice and
with the program. If the school is not open to Choice then the program is closed
to out-of-district students.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If the
student is not selected in the Choice lottery, they are waitlisted to the
school and program.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

at <u>traditional schools</u> should note that enrollment in that program does
not automatically mean the student will go to the same school for first grade</span></b><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">. The student must apply through the Choice Program
for first grade placement if he/she wants to go to a school other than his/her
boundary school.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also note that the
school the child attended for kindergarten may not necessarily be open for
Choice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Parents of extended-day,
tuition-based kindergarteners for <u>magnet schools</u> do not need to reapply
for Choice as their Choice approval remains in effect through the highest grade
served at their magnet school.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">The duration of a Choice
placement is valid only for the grades which that school serves. For example,
if a student attends a Choice elementary school, the approval is valid to the
end of fifth grade, as long as there are no significant changes in that
school’s enrollment or facilities. When a student transitions from elementary
to middle school or from middle to high school, they must reapply for Choice.
If they don’t, the student’s placement automatically reverts to their boundary
school.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: normal; margin: 1em 0px; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: normal; margin: 1em 0px; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Nuestros estudiantes a

<span style="font-size: 9pt;">Dear Parents,</span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt;"><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt;">Thank you for attending the fall conferences in
October;<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>we had an outstanding turnout. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is
our goal for teachers, parents, and administrators to strive toward student
achievement for every individual student in our building.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Teachers will notify parents at mid-quarter of
any student who is below proficiency.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Please remember each parent/guardian may access student academic
progress online through Infinite Campus (IC).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Our response time to parent calls/e-mails should be within 24-48
hours.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We may also be in contact with
the parent if a student has unacceptable performance in scholarly habits of
excellence, perseverance, preparation, perseverance, and respect.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt;">Safety is our number one priority in our school.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Parents, we cannot stress enough the
importance of ALL of our visitors to sign in at the office.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is a state law and is posted on the front
entrance of our school.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We do have a
reliable security system that screens visitors in our building.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The security system is connected to the
National Sex Offenders List with the swipe of a driver’s license. Teachers are
being asked to have any adult who is not wearing a visitor sticker to return to
the office to obtain the visitor sticker.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Thank you for your cooperation by having your license whenever you enter
the building.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I would also like to take
this opportunity to let you know that our entire staff is wearing a “SRMS Staff
ID.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our expectation for our students is
to also wear ID’s to school every day, every hour.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We have provided a lanyard and a Student ID
for every student at SRMS.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The ID for
every staff member and student is to be visible and worn above the waist.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Again, wearing an ID is a pertinent safety
measure.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Replacements for an ID and a
lanyard are $5 each.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They may be
purchased in the office.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt;">The winter months are upon us, please remind your child
to bring a jacket. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We do go outside
daily after lunch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Going outside allows
students to release some stress, get some fresh air, and allows us to move the
traffic of 1,006 students to eat lunch within an hour and a two hour timeframe.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When the weather is not cooperative, we do
stay inside, but it is very seldom that we hold students in the cafeteria the
entire lunch time.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Thank you for
supporting your child in being prepared with a coat for the Colorado weather.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt;">As we move through the year, our students progress
academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our students sometimes experience difficult
situations.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Please remind your child
that the SRMS staff is here to help and assist in difficult situations.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We have solid resources to assist our
students (i.e. counselors, teachers, and administrators. Safe 2 Tell on the
school web page…).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is extremely
critical that we are made aware of the problem, so that we may assist your
child.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Your child’s communication with a

progresado bien! </b></span><span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%;">Es
diariamente. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 1em 0px 0pt; mso-add-space: auto; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 1em 0px 0pt; mso-add-space: auto; text-indent: 0.5in;">

<span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">Dear

smoothly!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></b></span><span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%;">It is hard to believe in nearly two weeks
we complete the first quarter of the 2015-16 school year.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I am sure you have noticed Middle School is a
time of great change for your student.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Students seem to grow inches overnight and begin to develop a sense of
independence.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Hopefully by now, your
child has a solid understanding of the school and the many teachers he/she
interacts with on a daily basis.</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%;">Thank you for reinforcing the importance of attendance, promptness,
academics at school and at home, and having your student wear their student
identification badge everyday.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As most
of you know, October is a critical month for us due to the <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">“Official Count Day,” </b>which determines how public schools are
funded.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We appreciate your efforts in
having your student at school during the count window (September 24th-October 8th)
and every day of the school year.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;"></span></b><br />
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">Attendance is a critical factor in a
student’s ability to attain the maximum benefit from the educational
environment.</span></b><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%;">Some of you may have experienced a call or a letter regarding
an attendance concern.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The district
attendance intervention helps schools prioritize levels of student attendance
concerns and direct resources proactively through the systems’ support
strategies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The following steps are
being implemented to prevent attendance concerns:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>1. A teacher will speak to a student once the
student has 2-3 absences (excused or unexcused).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>2.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>When a student has 4-5 absences (excuse or unexcused) a teacher may make
parent contact to discuss the possible attendance concerns.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>3. When a student has 6-7 absences (excused
or unexcused), an administrator will either call or send a letter to notify
parents of his/her concern about continued absences. 4.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When a student reaches 8-10 absences (excused
or unexcused), an administrator will arrange for a conference to be held with
parents, student, and teachers to develop a Student Attendance Stipulation
(Contract).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Again, the purpose of the guidelines is to assist your child in
realizing the importance of school and becoming the best student possible.</b><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%;">The staff continues to support academics by providing extra help before/after
school, during lunch and at RAMS Time (four days before and four days after
school in the media center).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Always
feel free to contact your teacher by email or phone, with email being the more
efficient source of communication.</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Make sure you mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 7th

<div class="MsoNormal">
Estimado padre/tutor,<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
cinco clases (matemáticas, lectura, ciencias, estudios sociales, y escritura),
estudiantes. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div class="MsoNormal">

Dear Parent/Guardian,<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The 2014-15 school year has flown by! Congratulations to you and your student(s)
for making it through the year. I wanted
to keep you updated regarding a positive academic change we implemented at
Shadow Ridge Middle School (SRMS), during the 2014-15 school year. After reviewing years of student achievement
data, researching literacy interventions, and visiting a handful of other
Denver Metro middle schools we increased your student’s literacy minutes.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We increased the literacy minutes, which changed the overall
schedule from six to seven classes, with the Language Arts class broken down
into a Reading and a Writing class. We increased
our six period day to an eight period day, increased to five core content
classes (math, reading, science, social studies, and writing) two elective
classes, and an intervention time before/after lunch involving additional
literacy and math minutes for every student.
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The data from MAPS Assessments has indicated improvement. However, we do need more than one year to
view patterns and trends. The benefits
of having increased literacy minutes
will assist all students in the areas of reading comprehension, writing,
and analyzing literature. Increasing
literacy and math minutes during advisory has also benefitted the
students. We will be using Moby Max for
the upcoming years, in the area of math.
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The school day will remain the same time schedule
implemented with bells. All students
will be passing from class to class at the same time, with all teachers out in
the hallway. The class periods will be
approximately 50 minutes long with a 30 minute lunch and 17 minute intervention
time attached to lunch. We will continue
holding Advisory on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Advisory will allow students to continue the
silent reading time, online math, and have a “Home Room Teacher” at SRMS.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Our staff has embraced the change and is excited to move
forward. We are thrilled to make a
positive change and move forward toward an increased focus on literacy. The district has also been diligent regarding
a district-wide literacy change. You may

reviewing the literacy plan on the district website.<o:p></o:p></div>
