Dear Parents,
We hope that you are experiencing an enjoyable spring.  All Shadow Ridge Middle School staff members would like to thank you for your support through the state testing (PARCC) in the areas of literacy, writing, and math.  We are required to test 7th grade in the content of social studies and 8th grade to test in the content of science through CMAS (Colorado Measure of Academic Success) in April.  All of these tests will be assessed on the computer.   An auto dialer and an email will be sent out after spring break reminding parents and students of the upcoming assessments.  Having students eat breakfast will prepare students for assessments.   Thank you for your partnership in helping our students do their very best on the PARCC and CMAS tests and for assisting us in our continual goal of increasing achievement for all students.
It is that time of the year when we start planning for year-end events.  Many musical performances for all grades in choir and band will be held in May.  Our awards ceremony will be the last day of school for your student.  If your student is an eighth grader, the last day of school will be Tuesday, May 23rd.  Eighth grade celebrations and Superstars field day will be on Tuesday.  If your student is a sixth or seventh grader, the last day of school will be Wednesday, May 24th.  The last day for sixth and seventh graders will conclude at 2:15 p.m. (early release day).   The award ceremonies for sixth and seventh graders will be scheduled throughout the day on May 24th.  Parent(s) of award recipients will be contacted by phone.
We have had the opportunity to enjoy some warm, sunny weather this spring.  Please remind your student(s) of the District 12 School Dress Code Policy.  Here are some of the frequent infractions we observe.   For girls:  Shirts must cover the shoulder, spaghetti straps, tank tops and halter tops are prohibited. Shirts with revealing necklines or armholes or exposed undergarments are prohibited.  Skirts or shorts must be fingertip length when arms are resting at sides.  For boys:  All attire should be sized to fit without exposing undergarments, and buttocks.  Students are not allowed to “sag.”  Thank you for reviewing the district policy with your child and supporting our school to maintain the focus of academics.
We are extremely proud of all our students and their accomplishments at Shadow Ridge and beyond!  In January, Johnny Serna, a sixth (6th) grader, won the Shadow Ridge Spelling Bee.  Larissa Steiner (7th grader) won second place and Arielle McMahan (6th grader) won third place at the SRMS Spelling Bee.   All three participated in the District 12 Spelling Bee at Northglenn High School.  SRMS Math Counts Team participated in numerous competitions throughout the school year.  Congratulations to Camden Snyder (8th grader) for qualifying for the Colorado State Math Counts Competition, a great achievement!  Congratulations to these students for their outstanding accomplishments!
Thank you for your continued support of your child’s achievement and support of SRMS!
