Dear Parents:

               March is a busy month.  The month consists of registration for the 2016-17 school year  and  the PARCC(Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers).  The assessments areas in PARCC are math and language arts.  CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success), which assesses science and social studies, will be after spring break in April.

We should all keep in mind the importance of PARCC.  The district focuses on a full body of evidence (MAPS Assessment, District 12 Common Assessments, In Building Common Assessments, and PARCC) when making important Curriculum and Instruction decisions.  Teachers also use assessment data to plan and drive their instruction for each class.  The full body of evidence is used when a decision needs to be made regarding your student’s potential and possible best successful avenue in guiding schedules (used to guide necessary classes, such as remedial classes or advanced classes). 

               Last year, Shadow Ridge showed gains in several of our assessment scores.  In order to reach an improved status we need you to be cognizant of the dates and the importance of this state mandated test.  Please help

us support your student by remembering the dates of the PARCC Test, which will be

March 15^th through April 1^st .

How can you help your student in preparation of the PARCC Assessments?

-Be sure that your child is in attendance every day and prepared to do the best

                              he/she can on the test.  Please do not schedule trips, medical

                              appointments, or other personal events during this assessment period.

-Make sure that your child eats breakfast every morning.

-Encourage your child to take their time and try to answer every question.  Often students do not attempt

the question if they do not know the answer.  It is important to remember that if students attempt the question, they can earn partial credit.  Receiving partial credit can make a significant

               difference in their categorical score (advanced, proficient, partially proficient, unsatisfactory).

-Instill in your child the importance of writing complete sentences when answering a question.

               -Show interest in how the test went that specific day.  This will display your belief regarding the

importance of the assessment.

                   We are thrilled to offer a Math Interventions Course for students at Shadow Ridge.  With support from the district math department we are interested in using the Math Navigator modules. These modules build critical thinking and reasoning by focusing on specific gaps in students' mathematical understanding; thus, allowing students to use these concepts and skills in order to solve more complex grade-level math problems and applications.  The modules build collaboration by giving the students ample opportunity to work together in ways to learn mathematics in a community rather than strictly as an individual.  The Math Navigator materials will be available for your review in the office from February 24-March 8.  If you are interested, please stop by the office to review the materials.

                    It is also important to know Adams 12 Five Star Schools has received some funds from a federal grant focused on drug-free schools.  Dark Knight K-9 Detection Services will be providing contraband inspections utilizing non-aggressive and certified detection canines.  The main priority of this program is prevention.  SRMS will be participating in this program, along with other secondary schools in District 12, with random searches taking place up to once a month.

               Marzo es un mes bastante ocupado, el mes consiste de inscripciones para el año lectivo de 2016-2017 y los PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers).  Las áreas de evaluaciones en PARCC son matemáticas y artes del lenguaje. CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success), la cual evalúa las ciencias y las ciencias sociales, será después de las vacaciones de primavera en abril.

               Debemos tener en cuenta la importancia de PARCC. El distrito se enfoca en toda la evidencia (Evaluaciones de MAPS, Evaluaciones comunes del 12 District, Evaluaciones de In Building Common, y PARCC) cuando toma decisiones importantes sobre el currículo y la enseñanza. Los maestros también utilizan datos de la evaluación para planificar y conllevar su enseñanza en cada clase. Toda la evidencia se utiliza cuando una decisión se tiene que hacer concerniente al potencial de su alumno y las mejores posibles avenidas para ordenar el itinerario (utilizado para organizar las clases necesarias, tales como clases remediales o clases avanzadas).

               El año pasado, Shadow Ridge obtuvo ventajas de varias de las notas de las evaluaciones. Para alcanzar un mejor estatus necesitamos que usted sea consciente de las fechas y la importancia de esta prueba estatal mandatoria. Por ayúdenos a ayudar a su alumno recordándole las fechas de la prueba de PARCC las cuales serán del 15 de marzo al 1º de abril.

              

¿Cómo puede ayudarle a su alumno en la preparación para las evaluaciones de PARCC?

-Cerciórese de que su hijo asista a clases todos los días y que esté preparado para hacer lo mejor que pueda en el examen. Por favor no programe viajes, citas médicas ni otros eventos personales durante el periodo de evaluaciones.

-Cerciórese de que su hijo desayune cada mañana.

-Anime a su hijo para que se tome su tiempo para intentar contestar cada pregunta. Frecuentemente el alumno intenta de contestar si no sabe la respuesta. Es importante recordar que si su alumno intenta la respuesta pueden obtener un crédito parcial. El recibir un crédito parcial puede hacer una diferencia significante en su nota final (avanzada, proficiente, parcialmente proficiente, insatisfactoria).

-Inculque en su hijo la importancia de escribir frases completas cuando responda a una pregunta.

-Muestre interés sobre cómo les fue en el examen en ese día específico. Esto les mostrará que usted cree que los exámenes son importantes.

               Estamos encantadísimos de ofrecer cursos de intervenciones en matemáticas para el alumnado de Shadow Ridge. Con la ayuda del departamento de matemáticas estamos interesados en utilizar módulos de Math Navigator. Estos módulos edifican el pensamiento crítico y el razonamiento al enfocarse en brechas específicas en el entendimiento matemático del alumno; así permitiendo al alumno utilizar estos conceptos y destrezas para resolver problemas y aplicaciones de matemáticas más complejos a nivel de grado. Los módulos edifican la colaboración dándole al alumno una amplia oportunidad de trabajar juntos de maneras que aprendan las matemáticas en colaboración en vez de estrictamente individualmente. Los materiales del Math Navigator estarán disponibles para su revisión en la oficina del 24 de febrero al 8 de marzo. Si está interesado, por favor pase por la oficina para revisar los materiales.

               También es importante saber que Adams 12 Five Star Schools ha recibido algunos fondos de una subvención federal enfocado en las escuelas libres de drogas. Dark Knight K-9 Detection Services estará suministrando inspecciones por contrabando utilizando perros no agresivos certificados para la detección. Although we have just started 2016, the month of February is full of various important events.  We have parent/teacher conferences, an in-service day, and a national holiday.

Our opportunity to meet with parents/guardians is very important.  We look forward to spending time with each of you regarding your child.  If you do not attend a conference on Wednesday, February 10^th   or Thursday, February 11^th, please remember the channels of communication with your child’s teacher (email or voicemail).  Please continue checking student progress on Infinite Campus (IC).

            Ya se terminaron las vacaciones, los días festivos han sido celebrados, y estamos ahora
procediendo a 2016. Es difícil de creer que hemos progresado hasta la marca de medio-año.  Shadow
Ridge ha tenido muchas celebraciones y eventos memorables este año escolar.  Estamos
extremadamente orgullosos de los estudiantes en nuestra Sociedad de Honor Junior (NJHS siglas en
inglés). El NJHS amablemente patrocinó  a varias familias necesitadas en los días festivos, ellos también
recogieron cientos de comida enlatada para la campaña de alimentos.
.
            Los estudiantes del Departamento de Música /SRMS exhibieron su maravilloso talento musical
en sus conciertos.  El Departamento de Drama de SRS tuvo  tres presentaciones de “The Scheme of the
Driftless Shifter!” La producción estuvo extraordinaria.  Felicitaciones tanto a los estudiantes como a los
maestros quienes hicieron un trabajo increíble.              
El invierno ha llegado a Colorado.  Por favor recuérdele a su niño que use un abrigo en la
escuela para la hora de recreo del almuerzo.  Los estudiantes necesitan aire fresco y no nos gusta
permitir que los estudiantes salgan afuera sin no están abrigados adecuadamente. Gracias por
ayudarnos con esta preocupación de salud.   Por favor recuerde que el distrito publicará cualquier cierre
de escuela en las noticias de televisión y la radio.  Nosotros no  tenemos un horario de comienzo
retrasado en nevadas como en otros distritos.  Nuestro personal comprende, que como padres, están
haciendo lo mejor posible para traer a su hijo a la escuela con seguridad durante las inclemencias del
tiempo.

            El personal de Shadow Ridge Middle School está constantemente enfocado en el logro del
estudiante. Para poder mejorar el logro del estudiante en lectura, escritura, y ESL, los maestros están
usando un enfoque  de Taller de Escritura y Lectura para la instrucción, lo cual enfatiza una estructura de
tiempo que permite a los estudiantes a escribir, leer, pensar, y discutir para la mayoría de cada periodo
de clase. La investigación sobre la alfabetización del adolescente enfatiza la importancia de lectura y
escritura todos los días para los estudiantes, por razones importantes y relevantes.  Los maestros

            The SRMS Music Department students displayed amazing musical talent in their concerts.  The SRMS Drama Department presented three performances of "The Scheme of the Driftless Shifter!" The production was amazing.  Congratulations to both the students and teachers who did an unbelievable job.                 

Winter has arrived in Colorado.  Please remind your child to wear a coat to school for lunch recess.  The students need fresh air and we do not like to allow students outside without proper gear.  Thank you for assisting us with this health concern.  Please remember the district will post any school closures on the television news and radio.  We do not have a late start snow schedule like some districts.  Our staff understands you, as parents, are doing your best to get your child to school safely during inclement weather.
