FREE Breakfast/ Lunch  

Nutrition Services will be hosting FREE Lunch this summer at Federal Heights Elementary (11 -12pm) and FREE Breakfast and Lunch at the following schools: Centennial Elementary (8-8:30am/10:45-12:15pm), Coronado Hills Elementary (8-8:30am/10:45 – 12pm), Riverdale Elementary (8-8:30am/10:45-12:15pm), STEM Launch (8-8:30am/10:45 – 12pm), The Studio School (8-8:30am/10:45-12pm), and Westview Elementary (8-8:30am/10:45 – 12pm).  This program is FREE to all children from 1 – 18 years of age.  It is not necessary to fill out any forms or qualify in any way.    Adults may purchase a meal for $3.00.  The program will run from 6/1/15 thru 7/31/15, Monday – Friday, and will be closed on 7/3/15 in observance of Independence Day.  We welcome each and every child!  If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 720-972-6279.

The 6th grade reading department is trying to add a new book to the approved reading list. The book is All the Broken Pieces by Ann E. Burg. It is available to read in the library for interested parents."

The 7th grade Literacy Extension classes are asking for the approval to use Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, The Maze Runner by James Dashner, Cinder by Marissa Meyer, and The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson in their classrooms.  The books would be used in reading classes to teach point of view and setting. In accordance with school board policy, all four books will be available for parents to preview in the library at Shadow Ridge for the next two weeks.

The 6th grade Literacy Extension class is asking for the approval to use Scrawl by Mark Shulman in their classrooms.  The book would be used in a reading class to teach character change and plot. Dear Parents,

            We hope that you had an enjoyable spring break.  All Shadow Ridge Middle School staff members would like to thank you for your support through the state testing (PARCC) in the areas of literacy, writing, and math.  We are required to test 7^th grade in the content of social studies and 8^th grade in the content of science through CMAS (Colorado Measure of Academic Success) in April.  All of these tests will be assessed on the computer.  The tests will run throughout April and May, more specifically April 14^th through April 18th.   An auto-dialer and an email will be sent out after spring break reminding parents and students of the upcoming assessments.  Having students eat breakfast will prepare them for assessments.   Thank you for your partnership in helping our students do their very best on the PARCC and CMAS tests and for assisting us in our continual goal of increasing achievement for all students. 

            It is that time of the year when we start planning for year-end events.  We hope to see you at school on April 23, 24, and 25 for the performances of "This is Just to Say”.  Many musical performances for all grades in choir, band, and orchestra will be held in May.  Our awards ceremony will be the last day of school for your student(s).  If your student is an eighth grader, the last day of school will be Tuesday, May 26th.  Eighth grade  celebrations will be the morning of May 26th.  If your student is a sixth or seventh grader, the last day of school will be Wednesday, May 27th.  The last day for sixth and seventh graders will conclude at 12 Noon.   The award ceremonies for sixth and seventh graders will be at one of three designated times on May 27th.   Parent(s) of award recipients will be contacted by phone.

            We have had the opportunity to enjoy some warm, sunny weather this spring.  Please remind your student(s) of the District 12 School Dress Code Policy.  Here are some of the frequent infractions we observe.   For girls:  Shirts must cover the shoulder, spaghetti straps, tank tops and halter tops are prohibited. Shirts with revealing necklines or armholes or exposed undergarments are prohibited.  Skirts or shorts must be fingertip length when arms are resting at sides.  For boys:  all attire should be sized to fit without exposing undergarments, and buttocks.  Students are not allowed to “sag.”  Thank you for reviewing the district policy with your child and supporting our school to maintain the focus of academics. 

            We are extremely proud of all our students and their accomplishments at Shadow Ridge and beyond!  In February, Jade Cash, an eighth (8^th) grader, won the Shadow Ridge Spelling Bee.   SRMS finished 3rd place out of a field of 17 schools at the Math Counts North Metro Area competition.  The SRMS Team consisted of Codi Li, Colton Snyder, Jonathan Kelly, and AJ Gurien.   Please congratulate the team and Cody Li, who finished 2nd and Colton Snyder who finished 6th at the Math Counts North Metro Area competition. Congratulations to these students for their outstanding accomplishments!

Estimados Padres,

            Esperamos que hayan disfrutado las vacaciones de primavera.  A todos los miembros del personal de Shadow Ridge Middle School les gustaría agradecerle su apoyo durante las evaluaciones estatales (PARCC) en las áreas de alfabetismo, escritura y matemáticas.  Es requerido que nosotros examinemos a los estudiantes de 7^mo grado en el contenido de estudios sociales y a los estudiantes de 8^vo grado en el contenido de ciencias por medio del CMAS (siglas en inglés para Medidas de Éxito Académico de Colorado) en abril.  Todos estos exámenes serán presentados en la computadora.  Los exámenes se presentarán en el transcurso de abril y mayo, específicamente desde el 14 de abril al 18 de abril.  Se enviará un mensaje automatizado y un correo electrónico después de las vacaciones de primavera para recordarle a los padres y estudiantes de las próximas evaluaciones.  Hacer que los estudiantes se desayunen los preparará para las evaluaciones.  Gracias por su participación al ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a que hagan su mejor esfuerzo en los exámenes PARCC y CMAS y por ayudarnos en nuestra meta continua de incrementar los logros de todos los estudiantes.

            Es la época del año en la que nosotros comenzamos a planificar los eventos de fin de año.  Esperamos verlo en la escuela el 23, 24 y 25 de abril para las presentaciones de "This is Just to Say”.  Muchas presentaciones musicales del coro, la banda y la orquesta de todos los grados se realizarán en mayo.  Nuestra ceremonia de premiación será el último día de clases de los estudiantes.  Si su hijo es un estudiante de octavo grado, el último día de clases será el martes 26 de mayo.  Si su hijo es un estudiante de sexto y séptimo grado el último día de clases será el miércoles 27 de mayo.  Él último día para los estudiantes de sexto y séptimo concluirá a las 12 del medio día.  Las ceremonias de premiación para los estudiantes de sexto y séptimo grado serán en una de las tres horas designadas el 27 de mayo.  Los padres de los estudiantes que van a recibir premios serán contactados por teléfono.

            Tuvimos la oportunidad de disfrutar algo de calor y clima soleado esta primavera.  Por favor recuérdele a su(s) hijo(s) la Política de Código de Vestimenta Escolar del Distrito 12.  Aquí están unas de las infracciones que observamos con frecuencia.  Para las niñas: Las camisas deben cubrir los hombros, las camisas con tiras tipo “espagueti”, camisetas sin mangas y camisetas con los hombros descubiertos están prohibidas.  Las camisetas con cuellos reveladores o huecos en los brazos o que expongan la ropa interior están prohibidas.  Las faldas o pantalones cortos deben ser del largo de la punta de los     dedos cuando los brazos están extendidos a los lados.  Para los niños: todo el vestuario debe quedar a la medida sin exponer la ropa interior y sentaderas.  Los estudiantes no se les permite usar la ropa caída.  Gracias por repasar la política del distrito con su hijo y apoyar nuestra escuela a mantener el enfoque en el contenido académico.

            ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de todos nuestros estudiantes y sus logros en Shadow Ridge y afuera de la escuela! En febrero, Jade Cash, un estudiante de octavo grado (8^vo), ganó la competencia “Spelling Bee” de Shadow Ridge.  SRMS llegó de 3^er lugar entre un grupo de 17 escuelas en la competencia “Math Counts” de North Metro Area.  El Equipo de SRMS consistió de Codi Li, Colton Snyder, Jonathan Kelly y AJ Gurien.   Por favor felicite al equipo y a Cody Li, quien llegó de 2^do y Colton Snyder quien llegó de 6^to en la competencia “Math Counts” de North Metro Area.  ¡Felicitaciones a estos estudiantes por sus logros excepcionales!
