Effective December 1, 2014, Nutrition Services will waive the convenience fee to our parents using the PayForIt system (our on-line payment system).  This will include all on-line payments made for Nutrition Services/BASE.  

The 6th grade Literacy Extension class is asking for the approval to use Wednesday Wars by  Gary D. Schmidt in their classrooms.  The book would be used to assist teaching  personal narratives and conflict. In accordance with school board policy, the book, Wednesday Wars, will be available for parents to preview in the library at Shadow Ridge for the next two weeks.

Dear Parents,

Thank you for attending the fall conferences!   We had an outstanding turnout for parent teacher conferences in October!  It is our goal for teachers, parents, and administrators to strive toward student achievement for every individual student in our building.   Teachers will notify parents at mid-quarter of any student who is below proficiency.  Please remember each parent/guardian may access student academic progress online through Infinite Campus (IC).  Our response time to parent calls/e-mails should be within 24-48 hours.  We may also be in contact with the parent if a student has unacceptable performance in scholarly habits of excellence, perseverance, preparation and respect.  

Safety is our number one priority in our school.  Parents, we cannot stress enough the importance of ALL of our visitors to sign in at the office.  It is a state law and is posted on the front entrance of our school.  We do have a reliable security system that screens visitors in our building.  The security system is connected to the National Sex Offenders Registry with the swipe of a driver’s license. Teachers are being asked to have any adult who is not wearing a visitor sticker to return to the office to obtain one.  Thank you for your cooperation by having your license whenever you enter the building.  I want to take this opportunity to let you know that our entire staff is wearing a “SRMS Staff ID.”  Our expectation for our students is to also wear ID’s to school every day, every hour.  We have provided a lanyard and a Student ID for every student at SRMS.  The ID for every staff member and student is to be visible and worn above the waist.  Again, wearing an ID is a pertinent safety measure.  Replacement cost for an ID and a lanyard is $5 each.  They may be purchased in the office.

The winter months are upon us, please remind your child to bring a jacket.  We do go outside daily after lunch.  Going outside allows students to release some stress, get some fresh air, and allows us to move the traffic of 1,001 students to eat lunch within an hour and a two hour timeframe.  When the weather is not cooperative, we do stay inside, but it is very seldom that we hold students in the cafeteria the entire lunch time.  Thank you for supporting your child in being prepared with a coat for the Colorado weather. 

As we move through the year, our students progress academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.  Our students sometimes experience difficult situations.  Please remind your child that the SRMS staff is here to help and assist in difficult situations.  We have solid resources to assist our students (i.e. counselors, teachers, and administrators. Safe 2 Tell on the school web page…).  It is extremely critical that we are made aware of the problem, so that we may assist your child.  Your child’s communication with a staff member is a key element.  This allows the school to solve these issues as quickly as possible.  Our goal is to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for every student who enters our building.

One last important topic I want to mention is the first round of Choice deadline is January 30th.   It is imperative to remember that applying for Choice is necessary for students out of their home school boundaries every year.  Please review the process on the Adams 12 website (www.adams12.org).  Applications may be submitted online.

Estimados padres,

¡Gracias por asistir a las conferencias del otoño!  ¡Tuvimos muy buena asistencia de los padres en las conferencias de octubre!  Nuestra meta es que maestros, padres y administradores se esfuercen por que todo estudiante en nuestra escuela logre su potencial.  A mediados del cuatrimestre, los maestros notificarán a los padres de cualquier estudiante que esté por debajo del nivel de dominio.  Por favor, recuerden que todo padre/tutor puede tener acceso al progreso académico del estudiante visitando Infinite Campus (IC) en línea.  Nosotros debemos responder a las llamadas/emails de los padres dentro de 24 a 48 horas de recibidos.  También nos podríamos comunicar con los padres si un estudiante tiene un desempeño inaceptable en los hábitos escolares de excelencia, perseverancia, preparación, y respeto.  

La seguridad es nuestra prioridad en la escuela.  Padres, es muy importante que TODOS los visitantes se registren en la oficina.  Es ley estatal y está citada en la entrada de nuestra escuela.  Tenemos un sistema de seguridad confiable que investiga a los visitantes en nuestra escuela.  Con solo escanear la licencia de conducir del visitante, el sistema se conecta con el Registro Nacional de Ofensores Sexuales.  Se pide que los maestros envíen a la oficina a cualquier adulto que esté en la escuela sin un sello de visitante.  Gracias por cooperar por medio de mostrar su licencia siempre que visite la escuela.  Deseo tomar esta oportunidad para dejarles saber que nuestro personal completo usa “SRMS Staff ID” (identificación de personal de SRMS).  Nuestra expectativa es que los estudiantes también usen su identificación escolar todos los días, a toda hora.  Cada estudiante en SRMS recibió un cordón y una identificación de estudiante.  La identificación de cada empleado y estudiante tiene que ser usada en un lugar visible en la parte superior del cuerpo.  El usar la identificación es una medida de seguridad.  El costo para reemplazar la identificación y el cordón es $5.00 por cada uno, y pueden obtenerlos en la oficina de la escuela.

Los meses de invierno ya están aquí, y deseamos que le recuerden a su hijo que traiga su abrigo.  Salimos fuera del edificio todos los días después del almuerzo.  El salir fuera del edificio permite que los estudiantes se relajen, disfruten del aire fresco, y nos permite a nosotros controlar el flujo de más de 1,001 estudiantes para almorzar en plazos de una y dos horas.  Cuando el tiempo no coopera, nos quedamos dentro del edificio, pero es raro que dejemos a los estudiantes en la cafetería durante todo el tiempo del almuerzo.  Gracias por apoyar a su hijo por medio de proveerle un abrigo para el clima en Colorado. 

Al movernos hacia adelante durante este año escolar, los estudiantes progresan académica, social, emocional y físicamente.  Nuestros estudiantes a veces enfrentan situaciones difíciles.  Por favor, recuérdenle a su hijo que el personal de SRMS está aquí para ayudarle en situaciones difíciles.  Tenemos buenos recursos para ayudar a los estudiantes (ej., consejeros, maestros y administradores, Safe-2-Tell en la página web de la escuela…).  Es sumamente importante que nos enteremos del problema para así poder ayudar a su hijo.  La comunicación de su hijo con el personal de la escuela es un elemento clave.  Esto permite que la escuela pueda resolver los problemas tan rápido como sea posible.  Nuestra meta es proveer un ambiente educativo seguro y conducente para cada estudiante en nuestra escuela.

Por último, deseo recordarles que la primera ronda del programa de Opción (Choice) termina el 30 de enero.  Es importante recordar que necesitan llenar una solicitud de Opción todos los años si su hijo asiste a una escuela fuera del área de asistencia que le corresponde.  Vean el proceso en la página electrónica del distrito Adams 12 (www.adams12.org).  También pueden llenar la solicitud en línea.
