Dear Parents,

We hope that you had an enjoyable spring break. All Shadow Ridge Middle School staff members would like to thank you for your support through the state testing (TCAP). Thank you for your partnership in helping our students do their very best on the TCAP tests and for assisting us in our continual goal of increasing achievement for all students.

It is that time of the year when we start planning for year-end events. We hope to see you at school on April 18th, 19th, and 20th for the performances of "Dress Rehearsal for Murder". Many musical performances for all grades in choir, band, and orchestra will be held in May. Our awards ceremony will be the last day of your school for your student. If your student is an eighth grader, the last day of school will be Thursday, May 23rd. Eighth grade core celebrations will be the morning of May 23rd. If your student is a sixth or seventh grader, the last day of school will be Friday, May 24th. The last day for sixth and seventh graders will conclude at 12 Noon. The award ceremonies for sixth and seventh graders will be at one of three designated times on May 24th. Parent(s) of award recipients will be contacted by phone.

We have had the opportunity to enjoy some warm, sunny weather this spring. Please remind your student(s) of the District 12 School Dress Code Policy. Here are some of the frequent infractions we observe. For girls: Shirts must cover the shoulder, spaghetti straps, tank tops and halter tops are prohibited. Shirts with revealing necklines or armholes or exposed undergarments are prohibited. Skirts or shorts must be fingertip length when arms are resting at sides. For boys: all attire should be sized to fit without exposing undergarments, and buttocks. Students are not allowed to “sag.” Thank you for reviewing the district policy with your child and supporting our school to maintain the focus of academics.

We are extremely proud of all our students and their accomplishments at Shadow Ridge and beyond! In February, Vincent Abeyta, a seventh (7th) grader, won the Shadow Ridge Spelling Bee. Eighth (8th) grader, Josh Bapple and sixth (6th) grader, Peyton Steiner finished in the top three and also represented SRMS at the District 12 Spelling Bee. All three students competed at the District 12 Spelling Bee while Vincent Abeyta finished 8th and was sent on to the Colorado State Spelling Bee in March. On another note, SRMS finished 4th place out of a field of 17 schools at the Mathcounts North Metro Area competition. Please congratulate the team as well Cody Li finished 8th and Colton Snyder finished 12th at the Mathcounts North Metro Area competition. Congratulations to these students for their outstanding accomplishments!

Thank you for your continued support of your child’s achievement and support of SRMS!

Sincerely,

Susie Wickham
